105. Pride makes us unable to see the glory of God. Instead of God’s true light, we rather perceive a false, demonic light which deceives and leads us astray. Without humility, discernment and God’s grace, even the holiest and most virtuous among men can follow a wrong path to perdition.

106. To be a man means to be a religious one, which means to suffer from homesickness for the lost paradise. Without longing for heaven, the beasts of prey will make nests in our hearts and minds.

107. To be a theologian does not mean only to understand conceptually the meaning of truth or to make the doctrine a theoretical and scholastic bulkhead of faith but also to make the living truth of God palatable to yourself and to confess and profess the truth to others in an intelligible, sensible and thoughtful manner.

108. Communion with God begins with our personal commitment to the living truth, with our inner conviction and unwavering trust in God. When we pray, we pledge allegiance to the new spiritual relationship of hope, faith and love established between us and the living God.

109. God reveals His truth and manifests His love, particularly in the desert of spiritual existence, in the thirsty places in need of His living water. Thus, Christ is resurrecting in our hearts after we pass through our long journeys in the wilderness of trials and tribulations.

110. When the waves of the ocean like a flaming fire are rushing against our feeble boat, many times there is nothing to do but to sing a hymn of glory to God from the middle of the storm. Only Christ can calm and rebuke the waves.

111. After forty days and nights in the wilderness, Christ came into this world to fill the emptiness and the darkness of this world with rays of divine glory.
