The conversion of Cornelius and the first representatives of the Gentiles to the gospel (Acts 10:1-24)

Faptele Apostolilor 10:1. În Cezareea era un om cu numele Corneliu, sutaş din ceata de ostaşi numită „Italiana”. 2. Omul acesta era cucernic şi temător de Dumnezeu, împreună cu toată casa lui. El făcea multe milostenii norodului şi se ruga totdeauna lui Dumnezeu. 3. Pe la ceasul al nouălea din zi, a văzut lămurit într-o vedenie pe un înger al lui Dumnezeu că a intrat la el şi i-a zis: „Cornelie!” 4. Corneliu s-a uitat ţintă la el, s-a înfricoşat şi a răspuns: „Ce este, Doamne?” Şi îngerul i-a zis: „Rugăciunile şi milosteniile tale s-au suit înaintea lui Dumnezeu, şi El Şi-a adus aminte de ele. 5. Trimite acum nişte oameni la Iope şi cheamă pe Simon, zis şi Petru. 6. El găzduieşte la un om numit Simon tăbăcarul, a cărui casă este lângă mare: acela îţi va spune ce trebuie să faci.”
Acts 10:1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian [a]Regiment, 2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave [b]alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. 3 About [c]the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!” 4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. 5 Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. 6 He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He[d] will tell you what you must do.”

INTRODUCERE – INTRODUCTION:
Petru, călăuzit de Duhul Sfânt, își continuă lucrarea după vindecarea din Lida și înviere din Iope, fiind chemat la Cezareea în casa unui sutaș din armata romană. Dumnezeu lucrează în mod miraculos la viața lui Corneliu și a altor suflete dintre Neamuri pentru mântuirea lor, folosindu-se în același mod miraculous de Petru, făcându-l părtaș la strategia lui Dumnezeu de mântuire a Neamurilor.
Peter, guided by the Holy Spirit, continues his work after the healing from Lyda and the resurrection of Joppa, being called to Caesarea in the house of a centurion of the Roman army. God miraculously works in the lives of Cornelius and other Gentile souls for their salvation, miraculously using Peter in the same way, making him part of God’s strategy for the salvation of the Gentiles.

PREZENTAREA ŞI INTERPRETARE LECȚIEI – LESSON PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. Corneliu, om cucernic și temător de Dumnezeu, este înștiințat de-un înger despre planul Său pe care i-l va descoperi prin Petru
1. Cornelius, a devout and God-fearing man, is notified by an angel of His plan which He will reveal to him through Peter

– Corneliu îl căuta pe Dumnezeul lui Israel, împreună cu casa lui, prin milostenie și rugăciuni, fiind devotat și temându-se de Dumnezeu
vers 2. Omul acesta era cucernic şi temător de Dumnezeu, împreună cu toată casa lui. El făcea multe milostenii norodului şi se ruga totdeauna lui Dumnezeu.
– Cornelius sought the God of Israel, along with his house, through almsgiving and prayer, being devoted and fearing God
vers 2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always.
– Corneliu este înștiințat de-un înger printr-o vedenie despre faptul că rugăciunile și milosteniile lui au ajuns înaintea Lui și prin Petru îi va descoperi Planul Său
vers 3. Pe la ceasul al nouălea din zi, a văzut lămurit într-o vedenie pe un înger al lui Dumnezeu că a intrat la el şi i-a zis: „Cornelie!” 4. Corneliu s-a uitat ţintă la el, s-a înfricoşat şi a răspuns: „Ce este, Doamne?” Şi îngerul i-a zis: „Rugăciunile şi milosteniile tale s-au suit înaintea lui Dumnezeu, şi El Şi-a adus aminte de ele. 5. Trimite acum nişte oameni la Iope şi cheamă pe Simon, zis şi Petru.
– Cornelius is notified by an angel through a vision that his prayers and alms have come before Him and through Peter He will reveal His Plan to him
vers 3 About [c]the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!” 4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. 5 Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.
Dumnezeu, conform Planului Său de-a ajunge Evanghelia până la marginile pământului, îl are în vedere pe Corneliu, un ostaș roman care-l căuta pe Dumnezeul lui Israel și i se descoperă, arătându-ne și nouă astăzi că înaintea lui Dumnezeu orice om are valoare, iar atunci când omul îl caută, Dumnezeu i se descoperă.
Ieremia 29:13. Mă veţi căuta, şi Mă veţi găsi, dacă Mă veţi căuta cu toată inima. 14. Mă voi lăsa să fiu găsit de voi, zice Domnul, şi voi aduce înapoi pe prinşii voştri de război; vă voi strânge din toate neamurile şi din toate locurile în care v-am izgonit, zice Domnul, şi vă voi aduce înapoi în locul de unde v-am dus în robie.
God, according to His plan to reach the gospel to the ends of the earth, has in mind Cornelius, a Roman soldier who sought the God of Israel and was revealed to him, showing us today that before God any man has value, and when man seeks Him, God reveals Himself to him.
Jeremiah 29:13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.

2. Corneliu ascultă întocmai de îngerul trimis de Dumnezeu și acționează cu credincioșie
Vers 6. El găzduieşte la un om numit Simon tăbăcarul, a cărui casă este lângă mare: acela îţi va spune ce trebuie să faci.” 7. Cum a plecat îngerul care vorbise cu el, Corneliu a chemat două din slugile sale şi un ostaş cucernic din aceia care-i slujeau în tot timpul; 8. şi, după ce le-a istorisit totul, i-a trimis la Iope.
2. Cornelius listens exactly to the angel sent by God and acts faithfully
Vers 6 He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He[d] will tell you what you must do.” 7 And when the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually. 8 So when he had explained all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa.

În planul pe care Dumnezeu ni-l descoperă, noi trebuie să acționăm cu credincioșie, încrezându-ne și punând în practică poruncile Lui.
Filipeni 2:12. Astfel, dar, preaiubiţilor, după cum totdeauna aţi fost ascultători, duceţi până la capăt mântuirea voastră, cu frică şi cutremur, nu numai când sunt eu de faţă, ci cu mult mai mult acum, în lipsa mea. 13. Căci Dumnezeu este Acela care lucrează în voi şi vă dă, după plăcerea Lui, şi voinţa şi înfăptuirea.
In the plan that God reveals to us, we must act faithfully, trusting and carrying out His commandments.
Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

3. Dumnezeu îi descoperă lui Petru în urma rugăciunii printr-o răpire sufletească planul Său cu privire la mântuirea neamurilor
vers 9. A doua zi, când erau pe drum şi se apropiau de cetate, Petru s-a suit să se roage pe acoperişul casei, pe la ceasul al şaselea. 10. L-a ajuns foamea şi a vrut să mănânce. Pe când îi pregăteau mâncarea, a căzut într-o răpire sufletească. 11. A văzut cerul deschis şi un vas ca o faţă de masă mare, legată cu cele patru colţuri, coborându-se şi slobozindu-se în jos pe pământ. 12. În ea se aflau tot felul de dobitoace cu patru picioare şi târâtoare de pe pământ şi păsările cerului. 13. Şi un glas i-a zis: „Petre, scoală-te, taie şi mănâncă.” 14. „Nicidecum, Doamne”, a răspuns Petru. „Căci niciodată n-am mâncat ceva spurcat sau necurat.” 15. Şi glasul i-a zis iarăşi a doua oară: „Ce a curăţat Dumnezeu, să nu numeşti spurcat.” 16. Lucrul acesta s-a făcut de trei ori, şi îndată după aceea vasul a fost ridicat iarăşi la cer.
3. God reveals to Peter through prayer through a rapture His plan for the salvation of the Gentiles
vers 9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” 15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has [f]cleansed you must not call common.” 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.

În viața noastră de credință și în viața Bisericii, Dumnezeu are un plan clar pentru fiecare din noi, a pregătit mai dinainte lucrurile în care să umblăm, noi prin rugăciune trebuie să căutăm să ne acordăm planurile noastre la Planul Lui, așa Dumnezeu ne va descoperi voia Lui.
Efeseni 3:6. Că, adică, Neamurile sunt împreună moştenitoare cu noi, alcătuiesc un singur trup cu noi şi iau parte cu noi la aceeaşi făgăduinţă în Hristos Isus, prin Evanghelia aceea, 7. al cărei slujitor am fost făcut eu, după darul harului lui Dumnezeu dat mie prin lucrarea puterii Lui. 8. Da, mie, care sunt cel mai neînsemnat dintre toţi sfinţii, mi-a fost dat harul acesta să vestesc Neamurilor bogăţiile nepătrunse ale lui Hristos 9. şi să pun în lumină înaintea tuturor care este isprăvnicia acestei taine, ascunse din veacuri în Dumnezeu, care a făcut toate lucrurile; 10. pentru ca domniile şi stăpânirile din locurile cereşti să cunoască azi, prin Biserică, înţelepciunea nespus de felurită a lui Dumnezeu, 11. după planul veşnic pe care l-a făcut în Hristos Isus, Domnul nostru.
In our life of faith and in the life of the Church, God has a clear plan for each of us, He has prepared beforehand the things to walk in, we through prayer must seek to give our plans to His Plan, so God will reveal us His will.
Ephesians 3:6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. 8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all see what is the [a]fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things [b]through Jesus Christ; 10 to the intent that now the [c]manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the [d]principalities and powers in the heavenly places, 11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,

4. Dumnezeu îi vorbește lui Petru prin Duhul Sfânt despre întâlnirea cu trimișii lui Corneliu și pregătește terenul pentru ca Corneliu, împreună cu rude și prieteni să audă Evanghelia
vers 19. Şi, pe când se gândea Petru la vedenia aceea, Duhul i-a zis: „Iată că te caută trei oameni; 20. scoală-te, coboară-te şi du-te cu ei fără şovăire, căci Eu i-am trimis.” 21. Petru deci s-a coborât şi a zis oamenilor acelora: „Eu sunt acela pe care-l căutaţi; ce pricină vă aduce?” 22. Ei au răspuns: „Sutaşul Corneliu, om drept şi temător de Dumnezeu şi vorbit de bine de tot neamul iudeilor, a fost înştiinţat de Dumnezeu, printr-un înger sfânt, să te cheme în casa lui şi să audă cuvintele pe care i le vei spune.” 23. Petru deci i-a chemat înăuntru şi i-a găzduit. 24. A doua zi, s-a sculat şi a plecat cu ei. L-au însoţit şi câţiva fraţi din Iope. În cealaltă zi au ajuns la Cezareea. Corneliu îi aştepta cu rudele şi prietenii de aproape, pe care-i chemase.
4. God speaks to Peter through the Holy Spirit about meeting Cornelius’ messengers and prepares the ground for Cornelius, along with relatives and friends, to hear the gospel
vers 19 While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you. 20 Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.” 21 Then Peter went down to the men [h]who had been sent to him from Cornelius, and said, “Yes, I am he whom you seek. For what reason have you come?” 22 And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.” 23 Then he invited them in and lodged them. On the next day Peter went away with them, and some brethren from Joppa accompanied him. 24 And the following day they entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends.

Dumnezeu este gata să comunice cu noi referitor la lucrarea care-o are cu noi, e gata să ne pregătească terenul înaintea noastră, să ne sprijine și să ne dea biruință, noi doar să ne încredem în El și să acționăm conform chemării făcute fiecăruia.
God is ready to communicate with us about the work He has with us, He is ready to prepare the ground for us, to support us and give us victory, we just have to trust in Him and act according to the call made to each one.

APLICAREA LECȚIEI – LESSON APPLICATION:
Dumnezeu prin viața lui Corneliu și a lui Petru ne învață astăzi cât de importantă este mântuirea oamenilor pentru El, faptul că El se lasă descoperit celor care-L caută și vrea să se folosească de fiecare din noi pentru împlinirea Planului Său, chemându-ne la ascultare, încredere și aliniere la Planul Său, ne promite că este cu noi și pregătește înaintea noastră terenul și oamenii la care are în plan să ne folosească.
God through the lives of Cornelius and Peter teaches us today how important it is for people to be saved, the fact that He reveals Himself to those who seek Him and wants to use each of us to fulfill His Plan, calling us to obedience, trust and alignment with His Plan, promises us that He is with us and prepares before us the ground and the people He plans to use us with.

Am eu în vedere pe oamenii nemântuiți și le dau importanță precum Dumnezeu lui Corneliu?
Caut eu voia lui Dumnezeu, ascultarea și încrederea în Planul Său precum Corneliu șI Petru?
La cât timp din viața mea renunț pentru ca oamenii din jur să audă Evanghelia și cât caut ca planurile mele să fie aliniate la Planul Domnului?
Privind la lecția de astăzi ce pot schimba în viața mea ca să fie mult mai potrivită Planului Său de Mântuire?
Do I consider the unsaved people and give them importance like God to Cornelius?
Do I seek God’s will, obedience, and trust in His Plan like Cornelius and Peter?
How much time from my life do I give up so that people around me can hear the gospel and how long do I look for my plans to be aligned with the Lord’s Plan? Looking at today’s lesson, what can I change in my life to be more appropriate to His plan of salvation?
