The Apostle Paul’s First Missionary Journey and Its Implications (Acts 13:1-52)

INTRODUCERE – INTRODUCTION:
În capitolul de astăzi avem descrisă lucrarea din Biserica din Antiohia, acolo unde lucrarea progresează și în urma slujirii, a postului, Duhul Sfânt hotărăște să cheme la lucrarea de misiune pe Barnaba și Saul (Pavel), după ce slujitorii din Biserică și-au pus mânile peste ei, i-au lăsat să plece.

In today’s chapter we describe the work of the Church in Antioch, where the work progresses and after the ministry, of the fast, the Holy Spirit decides to call Barnabas and Saul (Paul) to the missionary work, after the Church ministers placed hands over them, they let them go.

PREZENTAREA ŞI INTERPRETARE LECȚIEI – LESSON PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. Duhul Sfânt cheamă la lucrarea de misiune pe Barnaba și Saul, totul prin slujire, post și certificarea chemării prin punerea mâinilor de către slujitorii Bisericii din Antiohia
1. The Holy Spirit calls Barnabas and Saul to the missionary work, all through ministry, fasting, and the certification of the calling by the laying on of hands by the ministers of the Church of Antioch.
Fapte 13:1. În Biserica din Antiohia erau nişte proroci şi învăţători: Barnaba, Simon, numit Niger, Luciu din Cirena, Manaen, care fusese crescut împreună cu cârmuitorul Irod, şi Saul. 2. Pe când slujeau Domnului şi posteau, Duhul Sfânt a zis: „Puneţi-Mi deoparte pe Barnaba şi pe Saul, pentru lucrarea la care i-am chemat.” 3. Atunci, după ce au postit şi s-au rugat, şi-au pus mâinile peste ei şi i-au lăsat să plece.
Paul and Barnabas Are Sent to the Gentiles

Acts 13:1 Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.
– În biserică este important să fie căutată călăuzirea Duhului Sfânt prin post, rugăciune și-o slujire sinceră
– În biserică trebuie avut în vedere scopul lui Dumnezeu de-a duce Evanghelia până la marginile pământului și sprijinirea lucrătorilor chemați să facă asta
– In the church it is important to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit through fasting, prayer and sincere service
– In the church we must keep in mind God’s purpose to take the gospel to the ends of the earth and to support the workers called to do so.

2. Barnaba și Saul propovăduiesc Evanghelia în Cipru și în ciuda opoziției duhului de vrăjitorie, a puterii întunericului ei caută călăuzirea Duhului și Pavel mustră pe Elima vrăjitorul

Fapte 13:4. Barnaba şi Saul, trimişi de Duhul Sfânt, s-au coborât la Seleucia, şi de acolo au plecat cu corabia la Cipru. 5. Ajunşi la Salamina, au vestit Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu în sinagogile iudeilor. Aveau de slujitor pe Ioan. 6. După ce au străbătut toată insula până la Pafos, au întâlnit pe un vrăjitor, proroc mincinos, un iudeu cu numele Bar-Isus, 7. care era cu dregătorul Sergius Paulus, un om înţelept. Acesta din urmă a chemat pe Barnaba şi pe Saul şi şi-a arătat dorinţa să audă Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu. 8. Dar Elima, vrăjitorul – căci aşa se tâlcuieşte numele lui – le stătea împotrivă şi căuta să abată pe dregător de la credinţă. 9. Atunci Saul, care se mai numeşte şi Pavel, fiind plin de Duhul Sfânt, s-a uitat ţintă la el 10. şi a zis: „Om plin de toată viclenia şi de toată răutatea, fiul dracului, vrăjmaş al oricărei neprihăniri, nu mai încetezi tu să strâmbi căile drepte ale Domnului? 11. Acum, iată că mâna Domnului este împotriva ta: vei fi orb şi nu vei vedea soarele până la o vreme.” Îndată a căzut peste el ceaţă şi întuneric şi căuta bâjbâind nişte oameni care să-l ducă de mână. 12. Atunci dregătorul, când a văzut ce se întâmplase, a crezut şi a rămas uimit de învăţătura Domnului.
Acts 13:4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 5 And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant. 6 Now when they had gone through [a]the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, 7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) [b]withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. 9 Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him 10 and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? 11 And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. 12 Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

– Propovăduirea Evangheliei și lucrarea la care ne-a chemat Dumnezeu nu necesită scutirea de atacurile întunericului și a duhurilor rele, însă opoziția întunericului poate să fie înfrântă rămânând în Hristos și căutând călăuzirea Duhului Sfânt
– The preaching of the gospel and the work to which God has called us does not require exemption from the attacks of darkness and evil spirits, but the opposition of darkness can be overcome by remaining in Christ and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Fapte 13:13. Pavel şi tovarăşii lui au pornit cu corabia din Pafos şi s-au dus la Perga în Pamfilia. Ioan s-a despărţit de ei şi s-a întors la Ierusalim. 14. Din Perga şi-au urmat drumul înainte şi au ajuns la Antiohia din Pisidia. În ziua Sabatului, au intrat în sinagogă şi au şezut jos. 15. După citirea Legii şi a Prorocilor, fruntaşii sinagogii au trimis să le zică: „Fraţilor, dacă aveţi un cuvânt de îndemn pentru norod, vorbiţi.” 16. Pavel s-a sculat, a făcut semn cu mâna şi a zis: „Bărbaţi israeliţi şi voi care vă temeţi de Dumnezeu, ascultaţi! 17. Dumnezeul acestui popor, Israel, a ales pe părinţii noştri. A ridicat la cinste pe norodul acesta, în timpul şederii lui în ţara Egiptului, şi l-a scos din Egipt cu braţul Său cel puternic. 18. Timp de aproape patruzeci de ani, le-a suferit purtarea în pustiu. 19. Şi, după ce a nimicit şapte popoare în ţara Canaanului, le-a dat de moştenire pământul lor, pentru aproape patru sute cincizeci de ani. 20. După aceste lucruri, le-a dat judecători, până la prorocul Samuel. 21. Ei au cerut atunci un împărat. Şi, timp de aproape patruzeci de ani, Dumnezeu le-a dat pe Saul, fiul lui Chis, din seminţia lui Beniamin; 22. apoi l-a înlăturat şi le-a ridicat împărat pe David, despre care a mărturisit astfel: „Am găsit pe David, fiul lui Iese, om după inima Mea, care va împlini toate voile Mele.” 23. Din sămânţa lui David, Dumnezeu, după făgăduinţa Sa, a ridicat lui Israel un Mântuitor, care este Isus. 24. Înainte de venirea Lui, Ioan propovăduise botezul pocăinţei la tot norodul lui Israel. 25. Şi Ioan, când era la sfârşitul însărcinării lui, zicea: „Cine credeţi că sunt eu? Nu sunt Acela; ci iată că după mine vine Unul, căruia eu nu sunt vrednic să-I dezleg încălţămintea picioarelor.” 26. Fraţilor, fii ai neamului lui Avraam, şi cei ce vă temeţi de Dumnezeu, vouă v-a fost trimis Cuvântul acestei mântuiri. 27. Căci locuitorii din Ierusalim şi mai marii lor n-au cunoscut pe Isus; şi, prin faptul că L-au osândit, au împlinit cuvintele Prorocilor, care se citesc în fiecare Sabat. 28. Măcar că n-au găsit în El nicio vină de moarte, totuşi ei au cerut lui Pilat să-L omoare. 29. Şi, după ce au împlinit tot ce este scris despre El, L-au dat jos de pe lemn şi L-au pus într-un mormânt. 30. Dar Dumnezeu L-a înviat din morţi. 31. El S-a arătat, timp de mai multe zile, celor ce se suiseră cu El din Galileea la Ierusalim şi care acum sunt martorii Lui înaintea norodului. 32. Şi noi vă aducem vestea aceasta bună că făgăduinţa făcută părinţilor noştri, 33. Dumnezeu a împlinit-o pentru noi, copiii lor, înviind pe Isus; după cum este scris în psalmul al doilea: „Tu eşti Fiul Meu, astăzi Te-am născut.” 34. Că L-a înviat din morţi, aşa că nu Se va mai întoarce în putrezire, a spus-o când a zis: „Vă voi împlini, cu toată credincioşia, făgăduinţele sfinte pe care le-am făcut lui David.” 35. De aceea mai zice şi în alt Psalm: „Nu vei îngădui ca sfântul Tău să vadă putrezirea.” 36. Şi David, după ce a slujit celor din vremea lui, după planul lui Dumnezeu, a murit, a fost îngropat lângă părinţii săi şi a văzut putrezirea. 37. Dar Acela, pe care L-a înviat Dumnezeu, n-a văzut putrezirea. 38. Să ştiţi, dar, fraţilor, că în El vi se vesteşte iertarea păcatelor; 39. şi oricine crede este iertat prin El de toate lucrurile de care n-aţi putut fi iertaţi prin Legea lui Moise.

Acts 13:13 Now when Paul and his party set sail from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem. 14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down. 15 And after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Men and brethren, if you have any word of [a]exhortation for the people, say on.” 16 Then Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen: 17 The God of this people [b]Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with [c]an uplifted arm He brought them out of it. 18 Now for a time of about forty years He put up with their ways in the wilderness. 19 And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land to them by allotment. 20 “After that He gave them judges for about four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. 21 And afterward they asked for a king; so God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’ 23 From this man’s seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a[d] Savior—Jesus— 24 after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. 25 And as John was finishing his course, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.’ 26 “Men and brethren, sons of the [e]family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the [f]word of this salvation has been sent. 27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him. 28 And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death. 29 Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb. 30 But God raised Him from the dead. 31 He was seen for many days by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people. 32 And we declare to you glad tidings—that promise which was made to the fathers. 33 God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm: ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.’ 34 And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to [g]corruption, He has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the sure [h]mercies of David.’ 35 Therefore He also says in another Psalm: ‘You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.’ 36 “For David, after he had served [i]his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and [j]saw corruption; 37 but He whom God raised up [k]saw no corruption. 38 Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; 39 and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

– Învățăm de la această prezentare a Evangheliei, făcută de apostolul Pavel, cât de important este să cunoști bine Sfintele Scripturi, să ții cont de auditoriu căruia îi vorbești și să te lași călăuzit de Duhul Sfânt în tot ceea ce faci pentru Domnul
– We learn from this presentation of the gospel, made by the apostle Paul, how important it is to know the Holy Scriptures well, to take into account the audience to whom you speak and to be guided by the Holy Spirit in everything you do for the Lord

4. Apostolul Pavel provoacă auditoriul evreiesc, rezultatul fiind prigoana din partea iudeilor, însă Duhul Sfânt cercetează Neamurile prezente și mulți cred Evanghelia
4. The Apostle Paul provokes the Jewish audience, the result being persecution from the Jews, the Holy Spirit searches the Gentiles present and many believe the Gospel
Fapte 13:40. Astfel, luaţi seama să nu vi se întâmple ce se spune în Proroci: 41. „Uitaţi-vă, dispreţuitorilor, miraţi-vă şi pieriţi; căci în zilele voastre, am să fac o lucrare pe care n-o veţi crede nicidecum dacă v-ar istorisi-o cineva.” 42. Când au ieşit afară, Neamurile i-au rugat să le vorbească şi în Sabatul viitor despre aceleaşi lucruri. 43. Şi, după ce s-a împrăştiat adunarea, mulţi din iudei şi din prozeliţii evlavioşi au mers după Pavel şi Barnaba, care stăteau de vorbă cu ei şi-i îndemnau să stăruie în harul lui Dumnezeu. 44. În Sabatul viitor, aproape toată cetatea s-a adunat ca să audă Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu. 45. Iudeii, când au văzut noroadele, s-au umplut de pizmă, vorbeau împotriva celor spuse de Pavel şi-l batjocoreau. 46. Dar Pavel şi Barnaba le-au zis cu îndrăzneală: „Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu trebuia vestit mai întâi vouă; dar fiindcă voi nu-l primiţi şi singuri vă judecaţi nevrednici de viaţa veşnică, iată că ne întoarcem spre Neamuri. 47. Căci aşa ne-a poruncit Domnul: „Te-am pus ca să fii Lumina Neamurilor, ca să duci mântuirea până la marginile pământului.” 48. Neamurile se bucurau când au auzit lucrul acesta şi preamăreau Cuvântul Domnului. Şi toţi cei ce erau rânduiţi să capete viaţa veşnică au crezut. 49. Cuvântul Domnului se răspândea în toată ţara. 50. Dar iudeii au întărâtat pe femeile cucernice cu vază şi pe fruntaşii cetăţii, au stârnit o prigonire împotriva lui Pavel şi Barnaba şi i-au izgonit din hotarele lor. 51. Pavel şi Barnaba au scuturat praful de pe picioare împotriva lor şi s-au dus în Iconia, 52. în timp ce ucenicii erau plini de bucurie şi de Duhul Sfânt.
Acts 13:40 Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you: 41 ‘Behold, you despisers, Marvel and perish! For I work a work in your days, A work which you will by no means believe, Though one were to declare it to you.’ ”Blessing and Conflict at Antioch 42 [a]So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. 43 Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. 44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul. 46 Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. 47 For so the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ” 48 Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. 49 And the word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region. 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and came to Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
– Când facem lucrarea Domnului trebuie să înțelegem că indiferent de reacția celor din jur, de prigoane, respingere și necazuri, Dumnezeu își face lucrarea Lui, Cuvântul Lui cercetează și împlinește Planul lui Dumnezeu
– When we do the work of the Lord we must understand that regardless of the reaction of those around us, persecution, rejection and trouble, God does His work, His Word researches and fulfills God’s Plan

APLICAREA LECȚIEI – LESSON APPLICATION:
Putem învăța din prima călătorie misionară a apostolului Pavel, faptul că Dumnezeu poartă de grijă Bisericii care caută voia Lui prin post, rugăciune și slujire prin alinierea la Planul de mântuire al lui Dumnezeu, El cheamă lucrători în biserică și îi călăuzește prin Duhul Sfânt, totul cu scopul de-a împlini Planul Său de Mântuire, indiferent de opoziția întunericului, de prigoană șI de circumstanțele prin care trebuie să treacă.
We can learn from the apostle Paul’s first missionary journey that God cares for the Church who seeks His will through fasting, prayer, and service by aligning with God’s plan of salvation. He calls workers into the church and guides them through the Holy Spirit, all in order to fulfill His Plan of Salvation, regardless of the opposition of darkness, persecution, and the circumstances he must go through.
