The Samaritans Receive the Holy Spirit and the Importance of the Right Understanding of God’s Gift (Acts 8:14-24)

Fapte 8:14. Apostolii care erau în Ierusalim, când au auzit că Samaria a primit Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, au trimis la ei pe Petru şi pe Ioan. 15. Aceştia au venit la samariteni şi s-au rugat pentru ei, ca să primească Duhul Sfânt. 16. Căci nu Se coborâse încă peste niciunul din ei, ci fuseseră numai botezaţi în Numele Domnului Isus. 17. Atunci Petru şi Ioan au pus mâinile peste ei, şi aceia au primit Duhul Sfânt. 18. Când a văzut Simon că Duhul Sfânt era dat prin punerea mâinilor apostolilor, le-a dat bani 19. şi a zis: „Daţi-mi şi mie puterea aceasta, pentru ca peste oricine-mi voi pune mâinile să primească Duhul Sfânt.” 20. Dar Petru i-a zis: „Banii tăi să piară împreună cu tine, pentru că ai crezut că darul lui Dumnezeu s-ar putea căpăta cu bani! 21. Tu n-ai nici parte, nici sorţ în toată treaba aceasta, căci inima ta nu este curată înaintea lui Dumnezeu. 22. Pocăieşte-te, dar, de această răutate a ta şi roagă-te Domnului să ţi se ierte gândul acesta al inimii tale, dacă este cu putinţă; 23. căci văd că eşti plin de fiere amară şi în lanţurile fărădelegii.” 24. Simon a răspuns: „Rugaţi-vă voi Domnului pentru mine, ca să nu mi se întâmple nimic din ce aţi zis.”

Acts 8:14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! 21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” 24 Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”

Introducere – Introduction

Filip propovăduiește Cuvântul Evangheliei în cetatea Samariei cu success, apostolii auzind de lucrarea din Samaria trimit acolo pe Petru și Ioan, care se roagă și-și pun mâinile peste ei, ca să primească Duhul Sfânt, ei fiind botezați doar în Numele Domnului Isus. La vederea acestei lucrări, Simon – fostul vrăjitor convertit, oferă bani apostolilor, înțelegând greșit lucrarea apostolilor, însă este mustrat de Petru și îndemnat la pocăință.

Philip preaches the Word of the gospel in the city of Samaria successfully; the apostles hearing of the work in Samaria send there Peter and John, who pray and lay their hands on them, to receive the Holy Spirit, they being baptized only in the Name of the Lord Jesus. At the sight of this work, Simon – the former converted wizard, offers money to the apostles, misunderstanding the work of the apostles, but is rebuked by Peter and urged to repent.

1. Samaria receives the gospel through the work of Philip, guided by the Holy Spirit
Știm despre Samaria că făcea parte din Regatul de Nord, Omri a construit acolo o nouă capitală și a permis sirienilor din Damasc să deschidă acolo afaceri și să facă comerț, Biblia ne spune despre Ahab care și-a construit acolo o casă decorată și tapetată cu fildeș, se construiește un templu închinat lui Baal și zeului Sidonului, multe alte altare și temple idolești unde slujeau preoții păgâni, era un sincretism religios respins de majoritatea evreilor.
We know about Samaria that it was part of the Northern Kingdom, Omri built a new capital there and allowed the Syrians of Damascus to open businesses and trade there, the Bible tells us about Ahab who built a house there decorated and wallpapered with ivory, a temple dedicated to Baal and the god Sidon was built, many other idolatrous altars and temples where pagan priests served, it was a religious syncretism rejected by most Jews.

Ioan 4:4. Fiindcă trebuia să treacă prin Samaria, 5. a ajuns lângă o cetate din ţinutul Samariei, numită Sihar, aproape de ogorul pe care-l dăduse Iacov fiului său Iosif. 6. Acolo se afla fântâna lui Iacov. Isus, ostenit de călătorie, şedea lângă fântână. Era cam pe la ceasul al şaselea. 7. A venit o femeie din Samaria să scoată apă. „Dă-Mi să beau”, i-a zis Isus. 8. Căci ucenicii Lui se duseseră în cetate să cumpere de ale mâncării. 9. Femeia samariteană I-a zis: „Cum Tu, iudeu, ceri să bei de la mine, femeie samariteană?” – Iudeii, în adevăr, n-au legături cu samaritenii. -10. Drept răspuns, Isus i-a zis: „Dacă ai fi cunoscut tu darul lui Dumnezeu şi Cine este Cel ce-ţi zice: „Dă-Mi să beau!”, tu singură ai fi cerut să bei, şi El ţi-ar fi dat apă vie.”
John 4:4 But He needed to go through Samaria. 5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

2. Apostolii din Ierusalim, trimit în Samaria pe Petru și Ioan, ca să se roage pentru ei, să-și pună mâinile, pentru a primi Duhul Sfânt
2. The apostles of Jerusalem send Peter and John to Samaria to pray for them, to lay their hands on them, to receive the Holy Spirit.
Fapte 8:14. Apostolii care erau în Ierusalim, când au auzit că Samaria a primit Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, au trimis la ei pe Petru şi pe Ioan. 15. Aceştia au venit la samariteni şi s-au rugat pentru ei, ca să primească Duhul Sfânt.
Acts 8:14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

– Unul din motivele amintite în text pentru această lucrare este că nu s-a coborât Duhul peste niciunul din ei, deoarece au fost numai botezaţi în Numele Domnului Isus
– Un alt lucru observat cu privire la această lucrare este începutul unei noi lucrări în Samaria
– Duhul Sfânt duce mai departe mărturia ucenicilor sau prin ucenici așa cum a spus Domnul Isus:

– One of the reasons mentioned in the text for this work is that the Spirit did not descend upon any of them, because they were only baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus

– The Holy Spirit carries the testimony of the disciples or through the disciples as the Lord Jesus said:
”Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

3. Simon înțelege greșit lucrarea Duhului Sfânt și a apostolilor, râvnind după putere și faimă
versetele 18. Când a văzut Simon că Duhul Sfânt era dat prin punerea mâinilor oricine-mi voi pune mâinile să primească Duhul Sfânt.”
Ținta creștinului trebuie să fie Domnul, slujirea și rămânerea sub autoritatea Duhului, nu puterea, banii, faima, minunile sau alte atitudini greșite și păcătoase.
Coloseni 3:23. Orice faceţi să faceţi din toată inima, ca pentru Domnul, nu ca pentru oameni, 24. ca unii care ştiţi că veţi primi de la Domnul răsplata moştenirii. Voi slujiţi Domnului Hristos. 25. Căci cine umblă cu strâmbătate îşi va primi plata după strâmbătatea pe care a făcut-o; şi nu se are în vedere faţa omului.

3. Simon misunderstands the work of the Holy Spirit and the apostles, coveting power and fame
vers 18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,
The goal of the Christian must be the Lord, service and abiding under the authority of the Spirit, not power, money, fame, miracles, or other wrong and sinful attitudes.
Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for[a] you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.

4. Petru îl mustră pe Simon pentru atitudinea lui și-l îndeamnă la pocăință
Versetele20. Dar Petru i-a zis: „Banii tăi să piară împreună cu tine, pentru că ai crezut că darul lui Dumnezeu s-ar putea căpăta cu bani! 21. Tu n-ai nici parte, nici sorţ în toată treaba aceasta, căci inima ta nu este curată înaintea lui Dumnezeu. 22. Pocăieşte-te, dar, de această răutate a ta şi roagă-te Domnului să ţi se ierte gândul acesta al inimii tale, dacă este cu putinţă; 23. căci văd că eşti plin de fiere amară şi în lanţurile fărădelegii.”

4. Peter rebukes Simon for his attitude and urges him to repent
verses 20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! 21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.”


Lucrarea unui slujitor al Domnului necesită mustrarea altora și îndemnarea la pocăință și împăcare cu Dumnezeu.
1 Tesaloniceni 5:12. Vă rugăm, fraţilor, să priviţi bine pe cei ce se ostenesc între voi, care vă cârmuiesc în Domnul şi care vă sfătuiesc. 13. Să-i preţuiţi foarte mult, în dragoste, din pricina lucrării lor. Trăiţi în pace între voi. 14. Vă rugăm, de asemenea, fraţilor, să mustraţi pe cei ce trăiesc în neorânduială; să îmbărbătaţi pe cei deznădăjduiţi; să sprijiniţi pe cei slabi, să fiţi răbdători cu toţi.
2 Timotei 4:1. Te rog fierbinte, înaintea lui Dumnezeu şi înaintea lui Hristos Isus, care are să judece viii şi morţii, şi pentru arătarea şi Împărăţia Sa: 2. propovăduieşte Cuvântul, stăruie asupra lui la timp şi nelatimp, mustră, ceartă, îndeamnă cu toată blândeţea şi învăţătura. 3. Căci va veni vremea când oamenii nu vor putea să sufere învăţătura sănătoasă; ci îi vor gâdila urechile să audă lucruri plăcute şi îşi vor da învăţători după poftele lor. 4. Îşi vor întoarce urechea de la adevăr şi se vor îndrepta spre istorisiri închipuite. 5. Dar tu fii treaz în toate lucrurile, rabdă suferinţele, fă lucrul unui evanghelist şi împlineşte-ţi bine slujba.

 

The work of a servant of the Lord requires rebuke of others and exhortation to repentance and reconciliation with God.
1 Thessalonians 5:12 And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and [a]admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves. 14 Now we [b]exhort you, brethren, warn those who are [c]unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.
2 Timothy 4:1 I charge you [a]therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead [b]at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

5. Simon acceptă mustrarea și cere ca apostolii să se roage pentru el
vers24. Simon a răspuns: „Rugaţi-vă voi Domnului pentru mine, ca să nu mi se întâmple nimic din ce aţi zis.”

Atitudinea corectă în fața păcatului ar trebui să fie acceptarea mustrării și pocăința sinceră înaintea lui Dumnezeu.
1 Ioan 2:1. Copilaşilor, vă scriu aceste lucruri ca să nu păcătuiţi. Dar, dacă cineva a păcătuit, avem la Tatăl un Mijlocitor, pe Isus Hristos, Cel Neprihănit. 2. El este jertfa de ispăşire pentru păcatele noastre; şi nu numai pentru ale noastre, ci pentru ale întregii lumi.
Iacov 5:14. Este vreunul printre voi bolnav? Sa cheme pe prezbiterii bisericii; si sa se roage pentru el, dupa ce-l vor unge cu untdelemn in Numele Domnului. 15. Rugaciunea facuta cu credinta va mantui pe cel bolnav, si Domnul il va insanatosi; si, daca a facut pacate, ii vor fi iertate. 16. Marturisiti-va unii altora pacatele si rugati-va unii pentru altii, ca sa fiti vindecati. Mare putere are rugaciunea fierbinte a celui neprihanit.

5. Simon accepts the rebuke and asks the apostles to pray for him
vers 24 Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”

The right attitude toward sin should be to accept rebuke and sincere repentance before God.
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
James 5:14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 [a]Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, [b]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Interpretarea și aplicarea lecției – Interpretation and application of the lesson

Duhul Sfânt lucrează și călăuzește lucrarea Bisericii prin lucrătorii săi, în cazul nostru Filip, Petru, Ioan și ceilalți apostoli și ucenici, călăuzirea lui Dumnezeu văzându-se și în cazul Samariei, noi trebuie să urmărim să ne aliniem Planului lui Dumnezeu de-a ajunge Evanghelia până la marginile pământului prin mărturia șI slujirea noastră, să avem ca Țintă pe Domnul și ascultarea de Cuvânt, respingând poftele firii și normele acestei lumi, fiind gata oricând să acceptăm mustrarea și pocăința, gata de-a lucra pentru Împărăția lui Dumnezeu trăind în Adevăr, în integritatea și în sfințenia cerută de Dumnezeu.

The Holy Spirit works and guides the work of the Church through his workers, in our case Philip, Peter, John and the other apostles and disciples, God’s guidance also seen in the case of Samaria, we must seek to align with God’s plan for the Gospel to reach to the ends of the earth through our testimony and ministry, to have as our Target the Lord and obedience to the Word, rejecting the lusts of nature and the norms of this world, being ready at any time to accept rebuke and repentance, ready to work for the Kingdom of God living in Truth, in the integrity and holiness required by God.
