The End of the Second and Beginning of the third Apostle Paul’s Missionary Journey (Acts 18:18-28)

INTRODUCERE – INTRODUCTION:
Ne aflăm la sfârșitul celei de-a doua și începutul celei de-a treia călătorii misionare a apostolului Pavel, după o perioadă lungă cât a stat în Corint apostolul Pavel împreună cu Priscila şi Acuila pleacă spre Efes, Cezareea, Ierusalim și Antiohia, de unde pornește în a treia călătorie misionară.
We are at the end of the second and the third missionary journey of the apostle Paul, after a long stay in Corinth the apostle Paul with Priscilla and Aquila go to Ephesus, Caesarea, Jerusalem and Antioch, from where embarks on the third missionary journey.


PREZENTAREA ŞI INTERPRETARE LECȚIEI – LESSON PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. Plecarea apostolului Pavel împreună cu Priscila şi Acuila din Corint, este marcată de-o juruință și are ca destinație Efesul
Fapte 18:18. Pavel a mai rămas destul de multă vreme în Corint. În urmă, şi-a luat ziua bună de la fraţi şi a plecat cu corabia spre Siria, împreună cu Priscila şi Acuila, după ce şi-a tuns capul în Chencrea, căci făcuse o juruinţă.
a) Acuila și Priscila dau dovadă de credincioșie în Domnul și încredere pentru ca Pavel să-i ia cu el în călătorie
– ei s-au pus la dispoziția lui Pavel pe perioada cât a stat în Corint
– ei și-au pus viața în pericol găzduind pe Pavel
– ei nu doar au ajuns la întoarcerea la Dumnezeu şi la credinţa în Domnul Isus Hristos, ci ei au contribuit activ la răspândirea Evangheliei
– ei rămân în Efes unde îl întâlnesc pe Apolo şi i-au prezentat mai exact calea lui Dumnezeu, el fiind un ucenic al lui Ioan Botezătorul (Fapte 18:26)
– ei au inițiat o biserică în casa lor din Efes (1 Corinteni 16:19)
– ei se mută la Roma și Pavel în epistola către Romani îi numește tovarăşii mei de lucru în Hristos Isus, care şi-au pus capul în joc, ca să-mi scape viaţa. (Rom 16:3-5)

Un exemplu extraordinar pentru noi ca și creștini, ca împreună cu familia noastră să ne punem casa și resursele la dispoziția lucrării lui Dumnezeu, să urmărim ca în felul acesta să fim o bună mărturie pentru Evanghelie.

1. The departure of the apostle Paul with Priscilla and Aquila from Corinth is marked by an oath and is destined for Ephesus.

Acts 18:18 So Paul still remained [a]a good while. Then he took leave of the brethren and sailed for Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila were with him. He had his hair cut off at Cenchrea, for he had taken a vow.
a) Aquila and Priscilla show faith in the Lord and trust that Paul will take them on a journey with him.

– they made themselves available to Paul during his time in Corinth

– they put their lives in danger by hosting Paul

– not only did they reach back to God and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, but they actively contributed to the spread of the gospel

– they stay in Ephesus where they meet Apollo and show him the exact way of God, being a disciple of John the Baptist (Acts 18:26)

– they started a church in their home in Ephesus (1 Corinthians 16:19)

– they move to Rome and Paul in the letter to the Romans calls my co-workers in Christ Jesus, who put their heads in the game to save my life. (Rom 16:3-5)

An extraordinary example for us as Christians, to make our home and resources available to God’s work with our family, to be a good witness to the gospel in this way.

b) Pavel își tunde capul și face o juruință înaintea Domnului, probabil ținând cont șI de contextual iudaic în care propovăduia Evanghelia
Deut 23:21. Dacă faci o juruinţă Domnului Dumnezeului tău, să nu pregeţi s-o împlineşti; căci Domnul Dumnezeul tău îţi va cere socoteală, şi te vei face vinovat de un păcat. 22. Dacă te fereşti să faci o juruinţă, nu faci un păcat. 23. Dar să păzeşti şi să împlineşti ce-ţi va ieşi de pe buze, şi anume juruinţele pe care le vei face de bunăvoie Domnului Dumnezeului tău şi pe care le vei rosti cu gura ta.
Numeri 6:2. „Vorbeşte copiilor lui Israel şi spune-le: „Când un bărbat sau o femeie se va despărţi de ceilalţi, făcând o juruinţă de nazireat, ca să se închine Domnului, 3. să se ferească de vin şi de băutură îmbătătoare; să nu bea nici oţet făcut din vin, nici oţet făcut din vreo băutură îmbătătoare; să nu bea nicio băutură stoarsă din struguri şi să nu mănânce struguri proaspeţi, nici uscaţi. 4. În tot timpul nazireatului lui, să nu mănânce nimic care vine din viţă, de la sâmburi până la pieliţa strugurelui. 5. În tot timpul nazireatului, briciul să nu treacă pe capul lui; până la împlinirea zilelor pentru care s-a închinat Domnului, va fi sfânt; să-şi lase părul să crească în voie. 6. În tot timpul cât s-a făgăduit Domnului prin jurământ, să nu se apropie de un mort; 7. să nu se pângărească nici la moartea tatălui său, nici a mamei sale, nici a fratelui său, nici a surorii sale, căci poartă pe cap închinarea Dumnezeului lui. 8. În tot timpul nazireatului să fie închinat Domnului.
Ca și creștini Dumnezeu nu ne cheamă la juruințe, la fel ca pe Israel, însă atunci când luăm o hotărâre înaintea lui Dumnezeu, Da trebuie să fie da și nu, nu. Viața noastră trebuie să fie caracterizată de integritate.

b) Paul shaves his head and makes an oath before the Lord, probably considering the Jewish context in which he preached the gospel.

Deuteronomy 23:21 “When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you. 22 But if you abstain from vowing, it shall not be sin to you. 23 That which has gone from your lips you shall keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth.
Numbers 6:2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When either a man or woman [a]consecrates an offering to take the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to the Lord, 3 he shall separate himself from wine and similar drink; he shall drink neither vinegar made from wine nor vinegar made from similar drink; neither shall he drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins. 4 All the days of his [b]separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, from seed to skin. 5 ‘All the days of the vow of his separation no razor shall come upon his head; until the days are fulfilled for which he separated himself to the Lord, he shall be holy. Then he shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow. 6 All the days that he separates himself to the Lord he shall not go near a dead body. 7 He shall not [c]make himself unclean even for his father or his mother, for his brother or his sister, when they die, because his separation to God is on his head. 8 All the days of his separation he shall be holy to the Lord.
As Christians, God does not call us to the oath, just as Israel does, but when we make a decision before God, Yes must be yes and no, no. Our lives must be characterized by integrity.

2. Apostolul Pavel continuă să propovăduiască Evanghelia, având un plan de lucru și fiind gata să-l împlinească, după ce a trecut pe la Ierusalim merge în Antiohia, după o vreme pornește în a treia călătorie misionară
Fapte 18:19. Au ajuns în Efes; şi Pavel a lăsat acolo pe însoţitorii lui. A intrat în sinagogă şi a stat de vorbă cu iudeii, 20. care l-au rugat să rămână la ei mai multă vreme. El însă n-a voit, 21. ci şi-a luat rămas bun de la ei şi a zis: „Trebuie numaidecât ca sărbătoarea care vine, s-o fac în Ierusalim. Dacă va voi Dumnezeu, mă voi întoarce iarăşi la voi.” Şi a plecat din Efes. 22. S-a dat jos din corabie în Cezareea, s-a suit la Ierusalim şi, după ce a urat de bine bisericii, s-a coborât în Antiohia. 23. După ce a petrecut câtăva vreme în Antiohia, Pavel a plecat şi a străbătut din loc în loc ţinutul Galatiei şi Frigiei, întărind pe toţi ucenicii.
Pentru noi creștinii, disciplina apostolului Pavel în lucrare ne îndeamnă la integritate, perseverență și ascultare de Dumnezeu, la seriozitate în mărturia noastră înaintea Bisericii și a oamenilor din jur.

2. The apostle Paul continues to preach the gospel, having a work plan and being ready to fulfill it, after passing through Jerusalem he goes to Antioch, after a while he embarks on the third missionary journey

Acts 18:19 And he came to Ephesus, and left them there; but he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they asked him to stay a longer time with them, he did not consent, 21 but took leave of them, saying, “I[a] must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem; but I will return again to you, God willing.” And he sailed from Ephesus. 22 And when he had landed at Caesarea, and [b]gone up and greeted the church, he went down to Antioch. 23 After he had spent some time there, he departed and went over the region of Galatia and Phrygia [c]in order, strengthening all the disciples.
For us Christians, the discipline of the apostle Paul in the ministry urges us to integrity, perseverance and obedience to God, to seriousness in our witness before the Church and the people around us.

3. Acuila şi Priscila mărturisesc pe Domnul unui ucenic al lui Ioan pe nume Apolo, explicându-i în detaliu Evanghelia, la urmă primind recomandarea fraților Pentru frații din Ahaia, fiind de ajutor în lucrarea Domnului
Fapte 18:24. La Efes, a venit un iudeu, numit Apolo, de neam din Alexandria. Omul acesta avea darul vorbirii şi era tare în Scripturi. 25. El era învăţat în ce priveşte Calea Domnului, avea un duh înfocat şi vorbea şi învăţa amănunţit pe oameni despre Isus, măcar că nu cunoştea decât botezul lui Ioan. 26. A început a vorbi cu îndrăzneală în sinagogă. Acuila şi Priscila, când l-au auzit, l-au luat la ei şi i-au arătat mai cu de-amănuntul Calea lui Dumnezeu. 27. Fiindcă el voia să treacă în Ahaia, fraţii l-au îmbărbătat să se ducă şi au scris ucenicilor să-l primească bine. Când a ajuns, a ajutat mult, prin harul lui Dumnezeu, pe cei ce crezuseră; 28. căci înfrunta cu putere pe iudei înaintea norodului şi le dovedea din Scripturi că Isus este Hristosul.

Pentru noi creștinii atitudinea lui Acuila şi Priscila față de Apolo este un exemplu să ne implicăm în lucrarea care Domnul ne-o pune înainte, văzând nevoile celor din jur, punându-ne la dispoziția Domnului și-a semenilor, cunoscând bine Cuvântul și ajutând pe cei din jur pentru mântuire și creșterea spirituală.

3. Aquila and Priscilla confess to the Lord a disciple of John named Apollo, explaining the Gospel to him in detail, and finally receiving the recommendation of the brethren For the brethren of Achaia, being helpful in the work of the Lord.

Acts 18:24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; 28 for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.
For us Christians, the attitude of Aquila and Priscilla towards Apollo is an example of getting involved in the work that the Lord puts before us, seeing the needs of those around us, making ourselves available to the Lord and his fellow men, knowing the Word well and helping those around For salvation and spiritual growth.

APLICAREA LECȚIEI – LESSON APPLICATION:
Putem învăța din lecția de astăzi să fim un ajutor în lucrarea Domnului, în bunul mers al Bisericii, punându-ne casa și resursele la dispoziția lui Dumnezeu, văzând nevoile celor din jur și implicându-ne, fiind oameni integri în hotărârile noastre, împlinindu-le, dând dovadă în toate lucrurile de disciplină, perseverență, seriozitate și ascultare de Dumnezeu, în așa fel încât să fim o mărturie Pentru mântuirea șI creșterea spirituală a celor din jur.
We can learn from today’s lesson to be a helper in the work of the Lord, in the good work of the Church, by making our home and resources available to God, seeing the needs of those around us and getting involved, being honest people in our decisions, fulfilling showing them in all things discipline, perseverance, seriousness, and obedience to God, so that we may be a witness to the salvation and spiritual growth of those around us.
