We ought to obey God rather than men (Acts 5:17-42)

Fapte 5:17. Însă marele preot şi toţi cei ce erau împreună cu el, adică partida saducheilor, s-au sculat plini de pizmă, 18. au pus mâinile pe apostoli şi i-au aruncat în temniţa de obşte. 19. Dar un înger al Domnului a deschis uşile temniţei, noaptea, i-a scos afară şi le-a zis: 20. „Duceţi-vă, staţi în Templu şi vestiţi norodului toate cuvintele vieţii acesteia.” 21. Când au auzit ei aceste vorbe, au intrat dis-de-dimineaţă în Templu şi au început să înveţe pe norod. Marele preot şi cei ce erau cu el au venit pe neaşteptate, au adunat soborul şi pe toată bătrânimea fiilor lui Israel şi au trimis la temniţă să aducă pe apostoli. 22. Aprozii, la venirea lor, nu i-au găsit în temniţă. S-au întors şi au spus astfel: 23. „Temniţa am găsit-o încuiată cu toată grija, şi pe păzitori stând în picioare la uşi; dar, când am deschis, n-am găsit pe nimeni înăuntru.” 24. Când au auzit aceste vorbe, căpitanul Templului şi preoţii cei mai de seamă au rămas înmărmuriţi şi nu ştiau ce să creadă despre apostoli şi despre urmările acestei întâmplări. 25. Cineva a venit şi le-a spus: „Iată că oamenii pe care i-aţi băgat în temniţă stau în Templu şi învaţă pe norod.” 26. Atunci căpitanul Templului a plecat cu aprozii şi i-au adus; dar nu cu sila, căci se temeau să nu fie ucişi cu pietre de norod. 27. După ce i-au adus, i-au pus înaintea soborului. Şi marele preot i-a întrebat astfel: 28. „Nu v-am poruncit noi cu tot dinadinsul să nu învăţaţi pe norod în Numele acesta? Şi voi iată că aţi umplut Ierusalimul cu învăţătura voastră şi căutaţi să aruncaţi asupra noastră sângele acelui Om.”
Acts 5:17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. 9 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, 20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life. 21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought. 22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told, 23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within. 24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow. 25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people. 26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned. 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.


29. Petru şi apostolii ceilalţi, drept răspuns, i-au zis: „Trebuie să ascultăm mai mult de Dumnezeu decât de oameni! 30. Dumnezeul părinţilor noştri a înviat pe Isus pe care voi L-aţi omorât, atârnându-L pe lemn. 31. Pe acest Isus, Dumnezeu L-a înălţat cu puterea Lui şi L-a făcut Domn şi Mântuitor, ca să dea lui Israel pocăinţa şi iertarea păcatelor. 32. Noi suntem martori ai acestor lucruri, ca şi Duhul Sfânt pe care L-a dat Dumnezeu celor ce ascultă de El.” 33. Când au auzit ei aceste vorbe, îi tăia la inimă, şi s-au sfătuit să-i omoare. 34. Dar un fariseu, numit Gamaliel, un învăţător al Legii preţuit de tot norodul, s-a sculat în picioare în sobor şi a poruncit să scoată puţin afară pe apostoli. 35. Apoi le-a zis: „Bărbaţi israeliţi, luaţi seama bine ce aveţi de gând să faceţi oamenilor acestora. 36. Căci nu demult s-a ivit Teuda, care zicea că el este ceva, şi la care s-au alipit aproape patru sute de bărbaţi. El a fost omorât, şi toţi cei ce îl urmaseră au fost risipiţi şi nimiciţi. 37. După el s-a ivit Iuda galileeanul, pe vremea înscrierii, şi a tras mult norod de partea lui: a pierit şi el, şi toţi cei ce-l urmaseră au fost risipiţi. 38. Şi acum eu vă spun: „Nu mai necăjiţi pe oamenii aceştia, şi lăsaţi-i în pace! Dacă încercarea sau lucrarea aceasta este de la oameni, se va nimici; 39. dar dacă este de la Dumnezeu, n-o veţi putea nimici. Să nu vă pomeniţi că luptaţi împotriva lui Dumnezeu.” 40. Ei au ascultat de el. Şi, după ce au chemat pe apostoli, au pus să-i bată cu nuiele, i-au oprit să vorbească în Numele lui Isus şi le-au dat drumul. 41. Ei au plecat dinaintea soborului şi s-au bucurat că au fost învredniciţi să fie batjocoriţi pentru Numele Lui. 42. Şi, în fiecare zi, în Templu şi acasă, nu încetau să înveţe pe oameni şi să vestească Evanghelia lui Isus Hristos.

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. 33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them. 34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; 35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. 36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. 37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. 38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. 40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Introducere – Introduction

Biserica din Ierusalim crește numeric, Duhul Sfânt prin apostoli lucrează în mod miraculous în mijlocul poporului, oamenii sunt vindecați și aud Evanghelia, toate acestea fac ca cel rău prin reprezentanții lui să intensifice prigoana împotriva apostolilor, lăsând bisericii o lecție importantă prin care să învețe în astfel de cazuri care trebuie să fie prioritățile, strategia și modul de a continua lucrarea la care Dumnezeu ne-a chemat.

The church in Jerusalem is growing in numbers, the Holy Spirit through the apostles works miraculously among the people, people are healed and hear the gospel, all this makes the wicked one through his representatives intensify the persecution against the apostles, leaving the church an important lesson to learn in such cases which must be the priorities, the strategy and the way to continue the work to which God has called us.

1. Făcând lucrarea încredințată de Dumnezeu, stârnim împotrivirea lumii șI a stăpânitorului ei
Asistăm în lecția de astăzi la o prigoană a apostolilor, pornită de marele preot și saduchei, din pizmă față de lucrarea apostolilor șI predicarea Evangheliei.
Matei 10:16. Iată, Eu vă trimit ca pe nişte oi în mijlocul lupilor. Fiţi, dar, înţelepţi ca şerpii şi fără răutate ca porumbeii. 17. Păziţi-vă de oameni; căci vă vor da în judecata soboarelor şi vă vor bate în sinagogile lor. 18. Din pricina Mea, veţi fi duşi înaintea dregătorilor şi înaintea împăraţilor, ca să slujiţi ca mărturie înaintea lor şi înaintea Neamurilor. 19. Dar, când vă vor da în mâna lor, să nu vă îngrijoraţi, gândindu-vă cum sau ce veţi spune; căci ce veţi avea de spus vă va fi dat chiar în ceasul acela; 20. fiindcă nu voi veţi vorbi, ci Duhul Tatălui vostru va vorbi în voi. 21. 1. By doing the work entrusted to God, we arouse the opposition of the world and its ruler

We are witnessing in today’s lesson a persecution of the apostles, started by the high priest and the Sadducee, out of envy of the work of the apostles and the preaching of the gospel.
Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

2. Făcând lucrarea încredințată de Dumnezeu, de multe ori trebuie să plătim un preț, însă trebuie să fim încredințați că Dumnezeu este în control și-și duce planul Său la îndeplinire
Apostolii sunt aruncațI în temniță, eliberați în mod miraculous de un înger șI trimiși la Templu, să predice Evanghelia și să lucreze pentru Domnul.
Marele preot împreună cu norodul vrând să-i judece pe apostoli, constată că nu mai sunt în închisoare, că în mod miraculous aprozii (păzitorii) stăteau la ușă dar apostolii au dispărut dinăuntru, ba mai mult acum stăteau în Templu șI învățau pe oameni. Marele preot i-a adus înaintea soborului (consiliu de conducere) și i-a interogat cu privire la lucrarea făcută de ei, învățătura lor și vinovăția aruncată asupra lor cu privire la răstignirea Domnului.
Matei 10:34. Să nu credeţi că am venit s-aduc pacea pe pământ; n-am venit să aduc pacea, ci sabia. 35. Căci am venit să despart pe fiu de tatăl său, pe fiică de mama sa şi pe noră de soacra sa. 36. Şi omul va avea de vrăjmaşi chiar pe cei din casa lui. 37. Cine iubeşte pe tată ori pe mamă mai mult decât pe Mine nu este vrednic de Mine; şi cine iubeşte pe fiu ori pe fiică mai mult decât pe Mine nu este vrednic de Mine. 38. Cine nu-şi ia crucea lui şi nu vine după Mine nu este vrednic de Mine. 39. Cine îşi va păstra viaţa o va pierde; şi cine îşi va pierde viaţa pentru Mine o va câştiga. 40. Cine vă primeşte pe voi Mă primeşte pe Mine; şi cine Mă primeşte pe Mine primeşte pe Cel ce M-a trimis pe Mine.

2. In doing God’s work, we often have to pay a price, but we need to be confident that God is in control and carrying out His plan.

The apostles are thrown into prison, miraculously released by an angel, and sent to the temple to preach the gospel and work for the Lord.

The high priest and the people, wanting to judge the apostles, find that they are no longer in prison, that miraculously the apostles (guards) were standing at the door, but the apostles disappeared from the inside, and now they were sitting in the temple teaching the people. The high priest brought them before the council (governing council) and questioned them about the work they had done, their teaching, and the guilt thrown upon them concerning the crucifixion of the Lord.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. 40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

3. În mijlocul prigoanei noi trebuie să rămânem în integritate, să nu facem compromise și să ascultăm de Domnul, călăuzițI de Duhul Sfânt
Răspunsul apostolilor este o ocazie de-a predica Evanghelia și o mărturie a Învierii Domnului, de asemenea o mărturie că ei trebuie să asculte mai mult de Dumnezeu decât de oameni, iar aceasta îi înfurie șI mai mult pe cei din sobor hotărând moartea apostolilor, dar sunt înduplecațI de Gamaliel, fariseu și învățător al Legii, care printr-o pledoarie ajută la eliberarea apostolilor, după ce sunt bătaiuțI cu nuiele și li se cere să nu mai continue lucrarea lor.
Luca 12:8. Eu vă spun: pe oricine Mă va mărturisi înaintea oamenilor îl va mărturisi şi Fiul omului înaintea îngerilor lui Dumnezeu; 9. dar cine se va lepăda de Mine înaintea oamenilor va fi lepădat şi el înaintea îngerilor lui Dumnezeu. 10. Şi oricui va vorbi împotriva Fiului omului i se va ierta; dar oricui va huli împotriva Duhului Sfânt nu i se va ierta. 11. Când vă vor duce înaintea sinagogilor, înaintea dregătorilor şi înaintea stăpânirilor, să nu vă îngrijoraţi cum veţi răspunde pentru apărarea voastră, nici ce veţi vorbi; 12. căci Duhul Sfânt vă va învăţa chiar în ceasul acela ce va trebui să vorbiţi.”

3. In the midst of persecution we must remain in integrity, not compromise, and obey the Lord, guided by the Holy Spirit.

The apostles’ response is an opportunity to preach the gospel and a testimony of the Lord’s Resurrection, a testimony that they must obey God more than men, and this angers those in the council even more by deciding the death of the apostles, but they are persuaded by Gamaliel, a Pharisee and teacher of the Law, who through a plea helps to deliver the apostles, after they are beaten with twigs and are asked not to continue their work.
Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: 9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. 10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. 11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: 12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.


4. Indiferent de consecințele prigoanei, noi trebuie să rămânem plini de bucurie și să continuăm lucrarea la care am fost chemați, ducând Evanghelia celor din jur
În urma acestei prigoane apostolii plini de bucurie continuă predicarea Evangheliei în orice împrejurare.
Matei 24:7. Un neam se va scula împotriva altui neam, şi o împărăţie împotriva altei împărăţii; şi, pe alocuri, vor fi cutremure de pământ, foamete şi ciume. 8. Dar toate aceste lucruri nu vor fi decât începutul durerilor. 9. Atunci vă vor da să fiţi chinuiţi şi vă vor omorî; şi veţi fi urâţi de toate neamurile pentru Numele Meu. 10. Atunci mulţi vor cădea, se vor vinde unii pe alţii şi se vor urî unii pe alţii. 11. Se vor scula mulţi proroci mincinoşi şi vor înşela pe mulţi. 12. Şi, din pricina înmulţirii fărădelegii, dragostea celor mai mulţi se va răci. 13. Dar cine va răbda până la sfârşit va fi mântuit.

4. Regardless of the consequences of persecution, we must remain joyful and continue the work to which we have been called, leading the gospel to those around us.

Following this persecution, the joyful apostles continue to preach the gospel in all circumstances.
Matthew 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Aplicarea Lecției – The application of the lesson
Noi suntem chemați de Dumnezeu la lucrarea de-a fi martori ai Lui, știind că asfel stârnim împotrivirea lumii și a satanei, consecințele pot să fie grave, trebuie să plătim un preț, însă în toate acestea trebuie să rămânem integrii șI să avem încredințarea că Dumnezeu este cu noi, ne va călăuzi prin Duhul Său ce trebuie să spunem și să facem, astfel încât plini de bucurie să mărturisim Evanghelia celor din jur, ducându-ne mântuirea până la capătul vieții, indifferent de consecințe.

We are called by God to the work of being His witnesses, knowing that in this way we arouse the opposition of the world and Satan, the consequences can be serious, we must pay a price, but in all this we must remain honest and have the confidence that God is with us, he will guide us by His Spirit for what we must say and do, so that full of joy we may confess the Gospel to those around us, leading us to salvation until the end of life, regardless of the consequences.

How much do I give in today to people who hate the gospel and how much in my life do I seek integrity, obedience to God, and guidance from the Holy Spirit?
How do I do God’s work in an adverse situation, how happy I am, and how much I preach the gospel and bear witness to Jesus’ discipleship?
